Solar collectors are tested with the solar simulator LUMOS and the collector test rig PERFORM at the institute for renewable energy technology in.RET. In winter, collectors can thus also be tested independently of the weather indoors.

Within the context of the course Solar Thermal Laboratory, the students from the renewable energy systems course of study  (RES) carry out investigations on a standard flat collector in 42 small groups. The aim of the investigations is to determine the collector characteristic curve.
